SELF-CARE SKILLS
Self-care skills are the skills a child needs for everyday tasks to participate in life
activities. Self-care skills are the activities of daily living (ADL’s). Children are naturally inclined to want to do things for themselves. Encouraging your child’s self-care skills help them develop their self-esteem.
Examples of Self-care Skills
1. Dressing/Undressing,
2. Self-feeding,
3. Toileting,
4. Opening lunch box
5. Hand washing,
6. Tooth brushing,
7. Bathing, etc.
Why does your child need self-care skills
1. Self-care helps your child learn planning and sequencing
2. Helps your child to be organized
3. Self-care skills teach your child resilience
4. Helps your child build the physical control necessary for daily tasks
